Customer Service Representative - Availability Department

Position Overview

This is a key entry-level position within our office. The Customer Service Representative will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Ocean Import Customer Service activities, focusing on container availability status at the terminal, dispatching, and coordinating deliveries to local warehouses. We focus on ensuring a specific level of service is provided to all of our customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive and validate that all necessary information regarding container Delivery Orders have been provided by customer.

  • Perform data entry or system upload into our transportation management system. Experience with Trinium is a plus.

  • Scan all pertinent documents into TMS system indexing to appropriate entry

  • Determines weights and measurements in order to identify proper equipment needed to transport freight legally.

  • Trace and Track containers on terminal websites to insure extraction prior to last free day.

  • Troubleshoot problems at terminals and communicate with customer to ensure timely extraction of units.

  • Identify and process hazardous loads, assuring that all appropriate documents needed to conduct the move is given to dispatch

  • Identify OG loads and determine weather Permits, Special Equipment, or Pilot cars would be needed and coordinate appropriately

  • Coordinate with dispatchers, terminal personnel and customers on scheduling activities in the allowed free days at the terminals.

  • Provide daily status updates to customers and team members.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma – some post-high school preferred

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

  • A desire to grow and learn

  • Good oral and written communication

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize

  • Strong computer skills and quick study on new software

  • Basic math skills

  • Logistics industry experience preferred

SLIP SHEET FORKLIFT OPERATOR

JOB SUMMARY

The Slip Sheet Forklift Operator (warehouse associate) is primarily responsible loading and unloading shipments, warehouse duties and moves materials within warehouse by hand or with machinery such as an industrial Slip Sheet Forklift etc., to accomplish various materials handling assignments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The ability to properly inspect and operate a slip sheet forklift.

  • Safely load/unload trailers ensuring weight distribution, load integrity, and all shipping instructions are followed.

  • The ability to understand storage and rotation procedures.

  • Identifies and transports requested materials to and from various locations including machines, loading docks, railroad cars, trucks, and storage areas.

  • Applies understanding of machine loading capacity and loading schedule, ensuring prompt and efficient delivery of required items.

  • Uses protective materials and strapping equipment to protect and secure loads; once delivered, removes strapping and wrapping, then safely disposes of waste materials in designated containers or areas.

  • Reports any problems with materials or transportation to supervisor.

  • Manages and piles drums, skids, pallets, and other supplies in specified areas.

  • Services equipment as needed, reporting mechanical or electrical difficulties to supervisor.

  • Load and unload incoming and outgoing materials and products.

  • Operate Forklift safely

  • Move materials to and from loading docks, delivery trucks, storage areas, and manufacturing areas.

  • Identify and label materials and record their locations in the warehouse/on the shelves to maintain inventory.

  • Prepare finished products for shipment by identifying their location, then pulling, packing, and loading them

  • Performs other related duties as requested.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Provide help in other areas of the warehouse when needed.

  • Work overtime required to meet department needs.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Ability to handle equipment and vehicles safely and sensibly.

  • Basic math, language, and reading skills.

  • Must have basic math skills for inventory counts; and English verbal and written skills to be able to read purchase orders and communicate with team members.

  • Be reliable, safe and a team player.

  • Exhibited good job performance and behavior as measured through indicators such as teamwork, attendance, quality, and productivity, etc.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • None.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • At least 1 year of experience driving a forklift.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to maintain single task focus and situational awareness.

  • Ability to push, pull, grasp, and fine manipulation of equipment using hands is ongoing throughout the work hours.

  • Walking on uneven surfaces possible, though infrequently.

  • Sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time.
